Chain Return Wheels

CSTRANS offers reinforced-polyamide chain return wheels in cylindrical and flanged profiles. Codes 801–809 cover several support shapes, with 16 and 20 mm bore options for matching the return assembly.

Match the Profile to the Chain Underside

The wheel body supports the return strand. A flange changes the available contact area and the clearance needed beside the chain.

Choose the Contact Shape Before the Bore

A small cylindrical wheel and a wider flanged wheel support a returning chain differently. The 801 has a plain cylindrical profile. The 802, 803 and 804 add different flange and body arrangements, so they should be compared with the underside and lateral position of the installed chain.

Codes 805–809 extend the range with chain return roller profiles A–E. Their different lengths and shoulders affect the supported area and shaft space. Use the individual section drawing to identify a replacement rather than selecting by colour or bore alone.

Allow for Flanges and Axial Retention

Compare the chain contact width with the wheel body and locate any flange relative to the chain's edge or underside features. Measure the shaft and the free space between brackets. Check that spacers and retainers leave the wheel free to rotate.

Where a wheel forms part of a take-up arrangement, inspect the complete return route over the adjustment travel. A new wheel must remain clear of the frame as the take-up moves.

Guide the Unloaded Strand Through the Frame

These wheels support conveyor chains on their return run. A narrow wheel can contact a local underside area; a longer roller can support a wider portion of the chain. Flanged profiles need particular attention where the chain moves laterally or passes close to a bracket.

On a take-up section, changing the roller position also changes the chain's approach and departure angles. The selected wheel should support that path across the available travel without forcing the chain against a flange.
