1873 Chain Guide Rail

The 1873 chain guide rail forms a curved channel beneath the conveyor chain. Its groove establishes the running path and must match the chain section that travels through it.

Start with the Chain Cross-Section

Compare the groove opening and retaining surfaces with the actual chain and its lower projections.

Establish the Chain's Running Path

The channel guides the chain through a change in direction. Its running surfaces, opening and retaining geometry need to suit the moving chain section, including room for link articulation.

A chain guide is part of the track beneath the product. Product side guides have a separate job. Check the chain-to-track relationship first, then position product guides relative to the resulting carrying path.

Define the Curve and Track Ends

Provide the curve angle and radius with its measurement reference clearly marked. Include the entry and exit tangents so the guide can meet the adjacent straight sections.

Show groove dimensions, retaining clearance and mounting positions on a cross-section. Check the chain at the joint between sections, where a step or misalignment can interrupt the running surface.

Guiding a Plate-Chain Conveyor Around a Corner

A curved guide establishes the chain path where the conveyor changes direction. The chain articulates within the track while carrying plates pass above it.

At each end of the curve, the straight track must meet the channel at the correct position and height. Alignment at those transitions matters because every link passes across the joint during operation.
